Malago River Litter Pick

B&S employees are looking forward to taking part in a litter pick in July organised by Bristol Avon Rivers Trust (BART). We will be helping to clear part of the Malago river which runs alongside our offices in Bedminster.

Bristol Avon Rivers Trust (BART) is a community-led organisation, which aims to deliver education, land and river based management advice and practical river restoration work across the Bristol Avon Catchment. BART are running a number of riverbank litter picks throughout summer as part of Bristol Green Capital. It has been estimated that it costs over £5 million a year in tax payer money to pick up litter across Bristol – the equivalent in costs to planting 20,000 new trees (Bristol City Council, 2014).

Despite being beautiful environments and often full of litter, rivers are often overlooked when it comes to litter picks. The Malago has been highlighted as a problem area by council officers and we are looking forward to working with the local community to make a significant impact on reducing the amount of litter present.
