Programme:
28 weeks
Scope of work:
The controlled demolition of existing buildings and the design and construction of a new classroom block and multipurpose sports hall and dining area. This contract was designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of ’Very Good’.

A complex scheme that involved a high level of liaison with the project stakeholders as the school remained operational throughout the build period.

The works comprised of a substantial site strip-out and reduce level dig and strip foundations. A load bearing block and beam construction technique was used to form the substructures with a combination of steel frame and load bearing brick/ block work forming the classrooms.

The site footprint was extremely cramped and the careful sequencing and programming of activities was vital to the success of the scheme. The acoustic properties of the city centre school were of high importance and key to the delivery of an effective and high quality learning environment. The scheme also included the development of a multi sports pitch, new parking area, commercial catering, cloakroom and washrooms.
