Sovereign Centre completes to high praise from North Somerset Council

This design and build project comprised of the major remodelling and refurbishment of 4 areas within “The Sovereign” a 1980s originally constructed shopping centre. The revamp was a bid from North Somerset Council to bring extra footfall to the high street.

This extensive refurbishment has created new workspace, event space, an independent coffee shop which is open to the public, cycle hub, cycle workshop and storage along with external murals and new signage to the exterior of the building and roof top.  The Centre was fully operational throughout.

Two large retail units at “The Sovereign” have been converted into 30 mixed size studio spaces, meeting rooms and co-working desks.  The new ‘We are Super’ workspaces offer 20 desks for co-working that can be hired for a day or on a monthly rate.

Our use of local suppliers and labour ensured that the refurbishment benefitted the Weston-super-Mare economy.

To further add value, we worked collaboratively with North Somerset Council to deliver a number of social value commitments. An excellent example of this was the relationship formed with Weston College which saw several engagements take place in the form of an industry talk and site tours - a fantastic way to add value to the curriculum.  From this relationship we have employed a Business Administration Apprentice who now works between our Bristol Office and sites whilst attending Weston College for her academic studies.

Our Client commented:

"It has been an extremely good experience from start to finish and B&S relationship with the team was excellent. The project was delivered safely to a very good quality of workmanship. B&S approach to social value was excellent and is deserved of a score of 10/10".
