On a dull, wet, and windy Thursday we were pleased to welcome over 25 individuals to the Old Magistrates Court site in Bristol. The visitors included our Client the Creative Youth Network and future tenants.

This was the perfect way for our on-site Trainee and Apprentice to demonstrate their knowledge of the project and to make use of their technical skills.

Ben Deane – Trainee Site Manager and Zoe Koeberg – Digital Marketing Apprentice were among the B&S representatives on hand to tour the site and update the visitors on our planned work activities. Zoe was also the dedicated photographer for the day using the photographic skills she had previously learned at School.

The visit was a success and the group are looking forward to seeing the completion of the project and the transformation of this Grade 2 Listed facility in the heart of Bristol.

We will be running a series of hard hat tours throughout the project and look forward to welcoming a number of local groups to a tour of the facility.

We had fun in the B&S office raising valuable funds for “Wear It Pink” for Breast Cancer Now and highlighting the importance of checking your breasts!

Breast Cancer does not stop for anything. This year alone 55,000 women and 370 men in the UK will hear the words “it’s breast cancer” and around 11,500 women and 80 men will die from it. This is why raising awareness is so important.

Every year B&S supports the charity and this year was no exception with the business raising over £80.00 just by eating cake.

Well done everyone for doing your part raising awareness of this cause.

Great to see the 1st stage of the construction process underway with the piling rig arriving on site at 601 Whitchurch Lane to improve the bearing capacity of the ground with vibro stone columns.

Our specialist local piling sub-contractor Ge-Mech is proceeding well with this critical element of works which at times has had to be completed out of hours and at weekends to accommodate the activities of local businesses.

Upon completion a total of 309 stone piles will have been laid across the site and 340T of stone will have been re-used from the original site clearance to support the improvement of the ground conditions.

Next up foundations!

Works to the new build Tiddlers Pre-School Nursery in Saltford are now complete and the facility was officially opened yesterday following a successful open day on Saturday. The 2600 sq ft nursery is based within the grounds of Saltford School and includes two classrooms, kitchen space, staff offices, WCs and apparatus storage.

The design involved extensive sub structures, block and beam flooring and a timber framed glulam structure with single ply roof and faceted elevations. In order to access the site, substantial temporary roads and hardstandings were formed and B&S Site Manager Steve Dimery focused on Site Health and Safety to ensure the wellbeing of all Saltford Primary School pupils, staff and visitors during the 22 week build period. Project Case Study to follow shortly.

Works commence on the 6th August to a number of teaching areas across UWE's Bower Ashton Campus. This seven week scheme is a follow on from our 2011 Summer works and is being managed by Joe Payne, Lee Hardwell and Owen Beckett.
